The Federal Trade Commission is returning more than $930,000 to consumers who bought teaExplore Data with the FTC products that Teami marketed and sold using allegedly deceptive health claims.

The FTC sued Teami, LLC and its owners in March 2020, charging that the company made bogus health claims and paid for endorsements from well-known social media influencers who did not adequately disclose that they were being paid to promote the defendant’s products. Teami claimed without reliable scientific evidence that their Teami 30 Day Detox Pack would help consumers lose weight, and that its other teas would fight cancer, clear clogged arteries, decrease migraines, treat and prevent flus, and treat colds.

The FTC is sending checks to more than 20,000 consumers who bought Teami teas. The average refund amount is just over $45. People who receive checks should deposit or cash them within 90 days, as indicated on the check.

Recipients who have questions about their refund should call the refund administrator, JND Legal Administration, at 844-929-4697. The FTC never requires people to pay money or provide account information to get a refund.

The FTC’s interactive dashboards for refund data provide a state-by-state breakdown of FTC refunds. In 2020, FTC actions led to more than $483 million in refunds to consumers across the country, but the United States Supreme Court ruled in 2021 that the FTC lacks authority under Section 13(b) to seek monetary relief in federal court going forward. The Commission has urged Congress to restore the FTC’s ability to get money back for consumers.

The Federal Trade Commission works to promote competition and protect and educate consumers.  The FTC will never demand money, make threats, tell you to transfer money, or promise you a prize.
