By a vote of 5-0, the Federal Trade Commission today authorized staff to close its investigation into the acquisition of Avant! Corporation by Synopsys, Inc. Commissioners Sheila Anthony, Mozelle W. Thompson, and Thomas B. Leary issued separate statements regarding this action, each of which can be found on the FTC's Web site as a link to this release.

The FTC's Bureau of Competition seeks to prevent business practices that restrain competition. The Bureau carries out its mission by investigating alleged law violations and, when appropriate, recommending that the Commission take formal enforcement action.
