On July 4, 2026, the United States celebrates 250 years of independence. Since its inception in 1914, the Federal Trade Commission has served Americans with the mission to protect consumers and promote fair competition.

The FTC’s mission is to vigorously enforce the law to protect Americans from anticompetitive, unfair, and deceptive business practices, without unduly burdening legitimate business activity.
