FTC sends second payment to people who paid for cash advances

The FTC is sending a second round of payments to people who paid Brigit for instant cash advances.

Brigit falsely promised quick cash advances of up to $250 to people who paid a monthly subscription fee. The company also advertised that customers could cancel anytime, but that wasn’t true. The FTC sued Brigit, alleging that the company charged fees for access to “instant” cash advances and often provided less than the promised amount. In many cases, customers were not able to get a cash advance at all. The FTC said that Brigit also made it difficult for customers to cancel.

To settle the lawsuit, Brigit agreed to change how it does business and paid $18 million. The FTC is using that money to provide refunds to eligible Brigit customers.

The FTC first sent payments in November 2024, which resulted in more than $9.8 million in refunds. Because there is still money remaining in the fund, the FTC is sending 1,052,038 payments totaling more than $6.8 million to people who accepted their first payment.
