FTC sends payments to people who paid for student debt relief
The FTC is sending 6,269 checks totaling $743,230 to people who paid for student debt relief services from BCO Consulting. The operators used many names including BCO Consulting Services, Students Loan Services, SLA Consulting Services, and Student Loan Advocates.
According to the FTC, BCO Consulting and its operators impersonated the Department of Education, collected illegal upfront fees, and falsely promised to reduce or forgive student loans.
