Petition to reopen or modify an order: The FTC has received a petition from the following entity. The petition will be subject to public comment for 30 days, until April 5.

  • NorAm Energy Corp., of Houston, Texas (formerly Arkla, Inc.), has petitioned the FTC to vacate or modify a 1989 consent order which resolved charges that Arkla's acquisition of natural gas pipeline assets from TransArk Transmission Co. would reduce competition for the transportation of natural gas out of the Arkoma Basin in Arkansas and the transmission of gas to consumers in the Russellville, Arkansas-area. The requested action would end NorAm's obligations under the order to obtain FTC approval before acquiring additional natural gas pipeline assets in the Arkoma Basin, and to report annually to the Commission regarding its compliance with the order (see June 5, 1989 news release regarding the consent order; Docket No. C- 3285).

Comments on the petition should be addressed to the FTC, Office of the Secretary, 6th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20580.
