Maribeth Petrizzi, the FTC Bureau of Competition’s Assistant Director of the Compliance Division, received a 2021 Roger W. Jones Award for Executive Leadership presented by the American University’s Key Executive Leadership Programs. For more than four decades, the award has recognized career executives in the federal government for their exceptional public service and dedication.

 “During Maribeth’s 28-year career in the government, she has exhibited the highest levels of leadership and has served as a model leader in enforcing the nation’s antitrust laws,” said FTC Chair Lina M. Khan. “Her expertise is of the utmost importance to the FTC’s mission, and her influence extends far beyond our agency.”

Appointed to the Senior Executive Service in 2004, Maribeth Petrizzi joined the FTC in August 2019 as the Assistant Director of the Compliance Division, after serving for more than two decades in the Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division. Petrizzi served as the Acting Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Competition for five months in 2021.

As head of the Antitrust Division’s Defense, Industrials, and Aerospace Section for sixteen years, Petrizzi was responsible for enforcement across key sectors of the U.S. economy, including the defense, avionics and aeronautics, banking, industrial equipment, road and highway construction, metals and mining, and waste industries. In addition, she has been a leader in promoting international cooperation with counterparts at competition agencies around the world, and she twice received the Attorney General’s Award for Equal Employment Opportunity for her efforts regarding diversity and inclusion initiatives and in 2019, she was the winner of the Presidential Rank Award.
