FTC sends checks to eligible people who paid for credit repair services
The FTC is sending 443,048 checks totaling more than $10.9 million to eligible people who paid a credit repair operation known as Financial Education Services (FES) between May 2019 and May 2022. The scheme used many names including FES, United Wealth Education, and United Wealth Services.
According to the FTC, the companies falsely claimed to clean up people’s credit but failed to deliver and charged them up front for the services, which is illegal. The companies also falsely promised people could make large amounts of money selling credit repair services to other customers or recruiting them to become agents. In reality, most agents lost money.
If you got a check, please cash it within 90 days.
