FTC sends second payment to people overcharged by Progressive Leasing

The FTC is sending a second round of checks to people who paid for furniture, appliances, jewelry, cell phones, and other high-ticket items using rent-to-own plans provided by Progressive Leasing.

The FTC says that Progressive Leasing misled shoppers when the company advertised “no interest” payment plans and led people to believe they would pay “same as cash” prices for these items. According to the FTC, people paid more than the sticker price, and frequently paid twice the sticker price if they made all their scheduled payments.

Progressive Leasing markets rent-to-own payment plans in stores and online at more than 24,000 retail stores, including:

  • Big Lots, Inc.
  • Mattress Firm
  • Cricket Wireless
  • Conn’s Corporate
  • Kay Jewelers
  • Art Van Furniture
  • Best Buy
  • Zales Jewelers

The FTC first sent payments in June 2021, which resulted in more than $143 million in refunds. Because there is still money remaining in the fund, the FTC is sending an additional 1,221,146 checks totaling more than $27 million to people who cashed their first check and paid Progressive Leasing $616.62 or more.

If you get a check, please cash it within 90 days.
