FTC sends payments to former AT&T customers

The FTC is sending Zelle payments to eligible former AT&T customers who were sent a payment and didn’t cash their check or accept their PayPal payment.

The FTC sued AT&T, and the company agreed to settle. According to the FTC’s lawsuit, AT&T unfairly reduced data speeds for customers with unlimited data plans, a practice known as “data throttling.” After customers reached a monthly threshold, they experienced data speeds so slow that many common activities like web browsing and video streaming were difficult or impossible.

The FTC first sent payments in April 2024, which resulted more than $5.6 million in refunds. Now, the FTC is sending Zelle payments to people who didn’t cash their check or accept their PayPal payment.

If you get a Zelle payment, the payment will be deposited directly into your bank account with a note about the settlement. The FTC never asks you to pay money to get a refund.
