Federal Trade Commissioner Christine Varney will be Prodigy's special guest for a chat in the Prodigy Auditorium on Monday, June 5th, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Varney will respond to questions from Prodigy subscribers regarding the FTC's role in antitrust issues and consumer protection, including the FTC's perspective on advertising in cyberspace.

"Consumer education is a top priority at the FTC," Varney said. "The FTC recently opened its own home page on the Net because we want to provide consumers with the latest FTC news and information, and we want to do it in the quickest and easiest way possible. Exchanging information through innovative services like chat rooms and bulletin boards," Varney added, "helps us establish an open and on-going dialogue with consumers, students, individuals from the business community and all Internet browsers."

In addition to being the featured guest in "real time" on Monday evening, Varney will also be available to answer questions on Prodigy's "Your Business Bulletin Board" Tuesday, June 6th through Friday, June 9th.

Varney is currently one of the featured panelists for a Lexis Counsel Connect online seminar discussing issues surrounding electronic commerce and communication. Varney will continue to be available on the Lexis online service through June 7th.

To speak with Varney in the Prodigy Auditorium, subscribers should sign on to "Chat." During the rest of the week, questions for Varney should be forwarded to Prodigy's "Your Business Bulletin Board."
