The Federal Trade Commission has extended until Nov. 15, 1995, the deadline for comments on a proposal to consolidate several old regulatory items into a single set of guidelines for the advertising and labeling of leather and imitation leather products. The new guides would replace three FTC guides for luggage, shoes and handbags, which the FTC rescinded in Septem- ber, as well as a rule for leather belts that the FTC proposed for elimination at that same time.

The Commission's decision to extend the comment period grants a petition from the Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America, a retail trade association. The association had sought more time so it could consult with members before submitting comments. The original comment period would have ended Oct. 18. The Commission vote to extend the comment period was 5-0.

Written comments should be marked "16 CFR Part 24 - Comment - Proposed Guides for Select Leather and Imitation Leather Products" and addressed to the FTC, Office of the Secretary, Room H-159, 6th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20580.
