The report assesses the current state of industry self-regulation as a means of protecting consumer privacy -- including children's privacy -- on the World Wide Web; the agency's comprehensive online survey of information-gathering practices of commercial Web sites; an examination of current industry guidelines governing information practices online; and a summary of the privacy concerns raised by the new online marketplace.
