Federal Trade Commission Chairman Robert Pitofsky has announced the appointment of Murfy Alexander to be Director of the Office of Public Affairs, effective immediately. Alexander will direct the distribution of all news documents and coordinate communication with the media.

Alexander most recently served as press secretary to former U.S. Rep. Jim Cooper of Tennessee. Prior to joining Cooper's staff in 1993, Alexander spent 15 years in corporate and marketing communications with various publications including Seventeen, Premiere, McCall's and Redbook.

Alexander received her B.A. degree from Vanderbilt University in 1975. She resides in Washington, D.C.

Alexander replaces Bonnie Jansen who remains with the FTC's Office of Public Affairs as a Senior Press Officer on a part-time basis.
