The Federal Trade Commission will hold a news conference to announce law-enforcement actions against telemarketers charged with deceptively pitching investments in emerging communications technologies. The FTC will announce its first cases involving interactive video and data services technology and will discuss some new twists in these high-tech investment schemes, which are a dramatically growing source of consumer complaints to the agency.

FTC Chairman Robert Pitofsky will be the speaker at this first news conference of his tenure as FTC Chairman. Chairman Pitofsky was sworn in on April 11.

The news conference will be held on Thursday, April 20, at 10 a.m., at the FTC headquarters building, 600 Pennsylvania Avenue N.W., Room 432. The room will open at 9 a.m. for camera crews to begin setting up.
