FTC Sends Second Round of Checks to Office Depot Customers

The FTC is sending a second payment to 121,704 people who paid Office Depot for computer repair servicesAccording to a complaint filed by the FTC, Office Depot and its software supplier,, configured a virus scanning program to report that it found symptoms of malware or infections—even when that was not true—whenever customers answered yes to at least one of four “diagnostic” questions. The false scan results were then used to persuade people to purchase computer repair services.

The FTC first sent checks in February 2020, which resulted in nearly $30 million in refunds. Because there is still money in the fund, the FTC is sending a second round of checks totaling $3.9 million to people who cashed their first check and paid Office Depot more than $200.

If you get a check, please cash it within 90 days.
