FTC sends a second payment to eligible people who were overcharged for payday loans

The FTC is sending a second round of payments to eligible people who were harmed by a deceptive payday lending scheme that operated under the names Harvest Moon Financial, Gentle Breeze Online, and Green Stream Lending.

According to the FTC, the defendants told borrowers that their payday loans would be repaid after a fixed number of payments. Instead, long after the promised number of payments had been made, borrowers learned that the payments had been applied to finance charges only and that the defendants were continuing to make regular withdrawals from their checking accounts.

The FTC first sent payments in June 2022, which resulted in more than $691,000 in refunds. Because there is still money in the fund, the FTC is sending a second round of payments totaling more than $224,000 to 8,877 people who accepted their first payment and were overcharged at least $2,000 for their loan.

If you get a check, please cash it within 90 days.
