FTC sends second payment to people harmed by illegal debt collection scheme

The FTC is sending a second round of payments to people harmed by Vantage Point Services’ illegal debt collection practices.

The FTC and the State of New York sued Vantage Point, alleging that the debt collector lied and used false threats to pressure people into making payments. For example, the defendants pretended they were calling from law firms or government offices and threatened to arrest or imprison people who didn’t pay.

The FTC first sent payments in May 2022, which resulted in more than $148,000 in refunds. Because there is still money in the fund, the FTC is sending a second round of checks totaling nearly $80,000 to 1,474 people who cashed their first payment and paid the defendants more than $700.

If you get a check, please cash it within 90 days.
