On Friday, August 6, 2004, I submitted my resignation as Commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission, effective August 31st.

My six and one-half years on the Commission have been a period of great challenge and accomplishment. I have been able to witness profound changes in the American economy and to consider important issues that will continue to affect businesses and consumers around the world. In doing so, I have had the privilege of helping to chart a course for the future of the global marketplace. My experience has been made especially rewarding because I have had the honor of working with my fellow Commissioners and the FTC staff – a group of dedicated men and women who embody the best in public service.
