    The Federal Trade Commission and the U.S. Department of Commerce will hold a public workshop on November 8, 1999, on "online profiling," the practice of aggregating information about consumers' interests, gathered primarily by tracking their movements online, and using the resulting consumer profiles to create targeted advertising on Web sites.

    A manufacturer of well-known home and personal care products has agreed to settle Federal Trade Commission charges that it did not have adequate substantiation for advertising claims for its Vaseline® Brand Intensive Care® Anti-Bacterial Hand Lotion (VICAL). Conopco, Inc., doing business as Unilever Home & Personal Care USA (Unilever), advertised VICAL as a hand lotion that "stops germs longer than washing alone."

    Fourth Wedding Gown Manufacturer Settles Care Labeling Charges; Agrees to Pay Civil Penalty

    The Federal Trade Commission today announced that Milady Bridals, Inc.-- a New York-based manufacturer of wedding gowns, bridesmaid gowns, and evening gowns -- has agreed to pay a $10,000 civil penalty to settle charges that it violated the FTC's Care Labeling Rule by using labels provided by Continental Gown stating "Dryclean Only by Zurcion Method."
