Current Antitrust Laws Adequate to Address High-Tech Competition Issues: Pitofsky
Federal Trade Commission Chairman Robert Pitofsky today told the American Bar Association that the 19th century antitrust laws on the books today are adequate to address the unique competition issues presented by the high-tech industries of the 21st century.

GEP, INC., and Bank Card Security Center, Inc., both of Casselberry, Florida and their owner, Steven Zwicker, have agreed to pay a $44,000 civil penalty, and in a separate settlement, Executive Industries, Ltd., and its owner Tony Cosantino, have also agreed to pay $22,000 in civil penalties to settle Federal Trade Commission charges.

Account Portfolios, Inc. (API), and a subsidiary, Perimeter Credit, L.L.C., have agreed to pay a $300,000 civil penalty as part of a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission to resolve allegations that they violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) when attempting to collect delinquent health spa accounts they had purchased from Bally's Health and Tennis Corporation.

The remaining four defendants in a pyramid scheme that promised investors they could earn up to $18,000 a month and receive an unsecured credit card with a high credit limit have agreed to settle Federal Trade Commission charges that their claims were false and their scheme violated federal laws.
