Amendments to Commission rules and regulations:

The Commission has approved amendments to the following: The FTC's Rules and Regulations Under the Fur Products Labeling Act (Fur Rules). The amendments were made pursuant to the Dog and Cat Protection Act of 2000, which prohibits importing, exporting, manufacturing, selling, advertising, transporting or distributing any product made of dog or cat fur within the United States. It also amends the Fur Products Labeling Act to exclude dog or cat fur products from the items the Commission may exempt from fur labeling requirements because they contain only a small amount of fur. Accordingly, the Fur Rules amendment, which will be detailed shortly in the Federal Register, states that the exemption does not apply to dog and cat fur products. Because the amendments are technical in nature, public comment is not necessary and the requirements of the Regulatory Flexibility Act do not apply. The amended rules will take effect 30 days after their publication in the Federal Register. The Commission vote to amend the rules and regulations was 5-0. Commission action regarding application for approval:

Following a public comment period, the Commission has ruled on a request from the following: E.I. Dupont De Nemours & Company. In its request, submitted to the FTC on April 5, 2000 and amended on September 19, 2000, the company asked for in camera (nonpublic) treatment for an additional 10 years of 21 pages of certain exhibits that are part of the adjudicative record in Docket No. 9108.
