Mortgage Loan Borrowers Receive Final Redress
The settlement in FTC v. First Alliance became final and effective on November 19, 2002. With the redress fund established by the settlement, the FTC distributed refunds to consumers beginning on December 16, 2002. The redress fund received additional money in 2003 and the FTC mailed a second round of refunds in January 2004. In 2009, additional funds were collected in accordance with the settlement agreement, and the FTC mailed a third round of refunds in May 2009. On November 19, 2009, the FTC mailed the fourth and final round of refunds.
Borrowers who previously collected pro rata refunds received the fourth check. Borrowers who previously received a $500.00 lump sum refund in the first round of the distribution did not receive additional checks because they were part of a prior settlement in the case of Dunning v. First Alliance.

Consumer
Information
Not all loans or lenders are created equal.
For example, certain home mortgage lenders target
homeowners who have low incomes or credit problems
or who are elderly – and then take advantage
of them by using deceptive practices.
If you’re thinking about a home mortgage loan, the FTC offers these publications to help you make a wise purchasing decision.
