The FTC and the Department of Justice (DOJ) are mailing a second round of checks to more than 690,000 people who were overcharged for online payday loans.

The FTC and DOJ brought civil and criminal lawsuits against Scott Tucker, AMG Services, and other related defendants for making false loan disclosures that did not accurately describe the true cost of their payday loans. The defendants told customers that they would pay a one-time finance fee, but the defendants made multiple withdrawals from customer bank accounts, assessing a new finance fee each time. As a result, borrowers paid far more for the loans than they originally agreed to pay.

The FTC first mailed checks for this matter in September 2018, which resulted in more than $382 million in refunds. Because there is still money in the fund, the FTC is sending a second round of checks totaling more than $152 million to people who cashed their first check.

If you get a check, please cash it within 90 days.
