The FTC’s Secure Access for Employees (SAFE) program is a web-based connection to the FTC network, including the intranet, home directories, shared directories and most applications. Developed to support remote access to a virtual FTC desktop, SAFE provides a convenient solution to telework and travel needs for FTC employees and contractors.
In order to access SAFE from a personal computer or FTC laptop, simply follow these two steps:
Step 1: Acquire Authorization
Working remotely requires submitting three FTC Forms to the Human Capital Management Office (HCMO) and taking an online training through the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). More details are available on HCMO’s Telework page.
Step 2: Device Access
Depending on your device type (government or personal Windows/Mac), accessing SAFE will require a number of technical steps. Please follow the appropriate instructions provided for your device found on https://www.ftc.gov/safe.
To access SAFE on a home PC, your operating system and browser must meet these requirements:
- Windows 10, 8.x, or 7 with Internet Explorer 11
- Mac OS 10.11.1 or higher
- PIV card reader (can be purchased online)
