16 CFR Part 455 Used Motor Vehicle Trade Regulation Rule; Project No. P087604
Dealers are more sophisticated than consumers in used car transactions. Not only do dealers have an opportunity to inspect a car, speak to its previous owner, and make repairs, but they also control the terms of the deal. Used car buyers are unsophisticated, intimidated, and unsure of the meaning of the documents they are signing. Giving dealers any advantage puts buyers in a worse position. The government should enforce protections for consumers, and not create avenues for dealers to exploit consumers. The economy can only grow through transparency in car deals. I am opposed to the FTC used car rule.
