I believe that this would be a practice that is unfair to the aim of our profession. The concerns that I have are: 1) Would the prescriptions be filled 2) If the prescriptions are filled, would it be in a timely manner 3)Are the pharmacists going to be knowledgable of veterinary drugs, their indications and dosages Can they know drug interactions. The other comment is to the ability of the client to "verify the safety and efficacy of pet medications that they purchase" They cannot get this information from their pharmacist, and informatuion on the internet is unreliable. This leaves the veterinarian as the provider of this information and so the person best suited to dispensing the medication. I think taht it is up to the owner/client to determine for themselves if they would like a prescription. I do not believe that there should be a legal obligation for us to do so.
