I have provided written and phone prescriptions directly to the pharmacy for clients' pets. I have had some appalling errors in filling these prescriptions brought to my attention. The wrong medication has been dispensed e.g.,paroxetine instead of piroxcam. The dosing has been changed without consulting or informing me. I would not be aware of these errors except for the client bringing it to my attention. My own personal family prescriptions have had errors made by the pharmacy. If the veterinary hospital fills the prescription and there is an error, they know what the error was, who made it, how to correct it and usually correct it before the client leaves with a medication. If it is given to a pet, the veterinarian will be able to identify the medication and treat the pet accordingly.
