Roanoke Animal Hospital
Request for Comments and Announcement of Workshop on Pet Medications Issues, Project No. P121201
1. The veterinarians at our hospital readily write prescriptions for any client who wishes to purchase their medications elsewhere. We do not charge for doing this (unless the client requests that we mail the written prescription to them, in which case we charge them $1.00 for S/H.) 2. Our prices for common prescription medications such as heartworm preventive are competitive with the Internet pharmacies. The vast majority of our clients buy such products from us and many of them have commented that we are less expensive than the Internet pharmacies, particularly if there is a S/H charge added to the Internet order. 3. We stand behind the prescriptions we sell. If the client is not happy with the product, we will refund their money. This rarely (if ever) occurs with Internet and human pharmacies. 4. We frequently have promotions not offered by outside pharmacies, such as $22.00 rebates with a year's supply of Heartgard Plus, and "buy 6 tubes, get 2 tubes free" of Frontline Plus. 5. Our local Kroger's and Walmart pharmacies have a list of $4.00 generic prescriptions. We frequently steer clients toward this discounted service. 6. We write prescriptions for all DEA controlled substances such as phenobarbital and hydrocodone which must be filled by an outside pharmacy. This may help an outside pharmacy to monitor for potential drug abuse/diversion.
