I think that this is probably someone's political football, likely someone with ties to Big Pharma. In my opinion, it will hurt the consumer in the end because it will hasten the demise of the small, family-run practices and promote Corporate Veterinary Medicine, which is well on the way to becoming a monopoly. I think consumers get a better deal overall when they buy from their vet. Consumers don't understand that they're cutting out part of their vets' profit margin by buying prescriptions elsewhere, and that it will have to be compensated for in other ways.
