To remove a major chain grocery store from Riverside Plaza is a grave misunderstanding of the particular situation of the city of Cortland. ALL the other stores -- Tops in the Groton Ave. Plaza and Price Chopper in the Walmart Plaza -- are on the OPPOSITE side of town, leaving the entire population on the south and east ends without a large, clean supermarket with broader oversight and management. (The Wilson Farms on Main St. is a tiny store that does not supply fresh meat or vegetables/fruit and should not be counted when surveying the location of supermarkets.) Moreover, the ongoing redevelopment of Riverside Plaza will suffer a permanent setback if a "mom and pop" grocery store is set up as a replacement. Since this is an interstate exit stop and "entry" into the city of Cortland, having a recognizable brand-name supermarket is a key to the presentation of the city itself. It is also important for travelers to have the opportunity to purchase wholesome foods, rather than relying on the fast food chain stores that demarcate the plaza. It is imperative that you reconsider the decision to remove Tops/P&C from Riverside Plaza. Thank you for your consideration of these arguments.
