16 CFR Part 610 Amendments to Rule to Prevent Deceptive Marketing of Credit Reports and to Ensure Access to Free Annual File Disclosures

Greetings: I believe that annualcreditreport.com provides a very useful service for consumers who don't want or can't afford getting caught up in "free" offers promoting credit services for a fee. Particularly noxious are the free credit report.com ads slanted toward younger consumers--the cute front man of the band rapping away about how he shoulda gone to free credit report dot com. I suggest that the annualcredit report. com site be designed so that the landing page does not display upsells of any kind, only legally entitled free credit reports, period. At the bottom of the landing page, if deemed absolutely necessary, there should be a "for credit related offers from our sponsors, click here" button. An unconscionable level of unrestrained captialism has overtaken any consideration of consumers' best interests. I would prefer to have the annual credit report site completely free of upsells and advertisements. As a freelance writer who writes educational material for consumers, it never ceases to amaze me how little folks read and make the effort to protect themselves from scams and upsells. I had no problems accessing my free credit reports on www.annualcreditreport.com, but I am a capable researcher and know how to find what I'm looking for online. Thank you for your time. I hope these comments are helpful. Best regards, Karen Lawson
