16 CFR Part 610 Amendments to Rule to Prevent Deceptive Marketing of Credit Reports and to Ensure Access to Free Annual File Disclosures
I am a victim of credit fraud. Two of my credit cards had fake charges from California and Mexico. The initial fraud alert was placed correctly by all 3 credit bureaus. However, I have yet to be able to get a free credit report (as promised in the notification) through the web sites or phone numbers provided either in the notification, or in the notification verification sent via postal mail. I have tried to get the free credit reports. It is very frustrating to receive messages refusing to deliver the free credit report. For example, Equifax displays the message "Online Delivery Unavailable", wants me to pay $7.95 for using the telephone number 800-685-1111. If there is a way to get the free credit report, I have not been able to find the method. Please make it easier on us to obtain our credit information, especially in a time of stress like a credit fraud. One final thought. The FICO score, which is what merchants pay attention to, is not part of the free credit report. This is a very important part of my credit record, and it should be included in the free credit report.
