16 CFR Part 610 Amendments to Rule to Prevent Deceptive Marketing of Credit Reports and to Ensure Access to Free Annual File Disclosures
I strongly urge that The Federal Trade Commission's amendments should specifically prohibit any type of commercial advertisements for products and services through the centralized source by the credit bureaus. In short, change it from a commercial site (.com) to a government site (.gov) to avoid any mystification and frustration at getting The Free Credit Report. I have been personally "burned" by buying a "one time credit score," only to find out later that I signed up for an annual credit report subscription through this single centralized source, i.e., AnnualCreditReport.com. What is suppose to be "Free" really means "Buyer Beware." It is very frustrating to have to read marketing "Terms and Conditions Statements" online just to see if you are doing the right thing. We (consumers/tax payers) should be able to simple get our federally mandated FREE Annual Credit Reports without a commercial hassle. Again, the FTC amendments should specifically prohibit any type of commercial advertisements for products and services through the centralized source by the credit bureaus at any time.
