I have a difficult time remembering when I actually checked my credit report on the site. I think it would be very helpful to get an email once a year has come up and you are allowed to check your credit report again. I also am not sure that just having these "free" sites have a warning saying that they are not the Federal site is enough. I don't believe they should be allowed to have sites called freescore or freecreditreport, first of all. It's extremely misleading to those that don't know that the "free" part is only free if you cancel their trial in enough time. These sites often make it very difficult to cancel their trial membership by requiring you to call a 1-800 number during some pretty narrow business hours. They also don't even show the price you would be paying until after you've entered all of your contact information and agreed to the trial. They should be required to disclose the price of, at least, the basic package prominently on the front page of their site before you enter any information.
