From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
Journalism will survive without government intervention. I absolutely do not want any tax dollars spent trying to analyze the current state of media or any bailout of media or any funds allocated to "train" journalists. Let the private sector ebb and flow as necessary. If that means that media outlets fail, so be it. (Contrary to conventional wisdom, no entity is too big to fail, including this great country.) More important segments of industry either no longer exist or exist in different forms. When the private sector sees value, it will assign assets. Any proposals to better-support and lower the costs of journalism is a private sector matter. Since this clearly has nothing to do with public safety, stay out of this private sector business.
