Perhaps the reason the print media is struggling is they do not provide what consumers want. The news is largely canned publicity for advocacy groups. The critical reader must often look to foreign publications to find stories about what is really happening in this country. Subsidizing inferior products at the expense of those that are successful does a disservice to the public. Print media is of necessity a day late. They must adapt in an electronic age. The feeling among many, myself included, is the old style media is really a government run media. Government subsidies would cement that conception. A competition in an unfettered market best serves the public.
