From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
Free speech is guaranteed in the Bill of Rights. That means that government should do nothing to limit it, control it, or bias it. The FTC should do nothing to censor or tax speech. The current process must not be a thin veil for doing so to conservative speech which is not to the liking of the current establishment. If the concern is that internet speech is an economic threat to large, mostly liberal (or otherwise) "news" organizations which have higher cost structures, so be it. That's just competition; it is happening in all industries. Why should journalism be any different? Government has no business patronizing one news outlet over another.
