From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
FTC, The last thing that is needed for our country to lose its place as a model of freedom is further government intrusion into the marketplace of ideas. Print media is declining not just because of the internet; it is primarily because of the choices made by publishers and editors to insert opinion into the reporting of news and to be more ideological in the choice of sources and coverage. I used to support public tv and radio; but I stopped long ago when it was apparent that objective reporting and programing had been sacrificed. Anything which eliminates or limits the free market competition that allows the ordinary citizen to choose what to read, watch, or listen to, such as government subsidy for newspapers, will lead us further away from free speech.
