From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
The government has no business bailing out or interfering with journalists. If market forces are pushing some journalists out, then that is the way it ought to be and the government needs to keep out of the way. There is no room in the Constitution for government to be funding those who are supposed to function as watchdogs. As watchdogs don't bark at those who feed them, so a government-funded journalist is not going to do his Constitutional job of holding the government accountable.
