From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
(forwarded message) From the Desk of: David Martin, Executive Vice President MEDIA RESEARCH CENTER 6/15/2010 Joe, Today marks a major battle in our fight against a big government bailout of the li beral media, and we need your help. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is convening today beginning at 9am at the National Press Club in downtown Washington, DC to “explore how the Internet has affected journalism.” Last week, we gave you the inside scoop on what is happening with the FTC and their plan for the Reinvention of Journalism. We outlined a series of taxes that would stifle free speech and silence conservatives. Today the FTC is holding a public meeting of senior government officials and academics to continue to look for ways for the government to prop up the liberal media. Dan Gainor, Vice President of The MRC’s Business and Media Institute (BMI), and Seton Motley, MRC’s Director of Communications will both be in attendance. These are the guys that first brought you the report of these outrageous ideas. To listen to their first audio report click here. As BMI Reported recently, this FTC plan is part of “an extensive attempt by the Obama Administration to seize control of the press,” including: * The creation of a journalism division of AmeriCorps -- forcing taxpayers to pay the Obama Administration to train up the next generation of liberal journalists! * A direct journalism bailout fund to “help pay the salary of every journalist.” That means you and I would be forced to fund the liberal media! Joe, as the nation’s leading media watchdog, it is our mission to look out for and report on just these kinds of audacious attempts to silence conservative voices. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to communicate DIRECTLY to you throughout this important day, and urge you check back frequently to get the latest breaking insight and analysis. In the meantime, we ask that you help us in two critically important ways: Action Item #1 – Tell the FTC “No” to efforts to control speech Direct your comments to the FTC, letting them know what you think of their plan to censor and tax conservative speech. Go here to leave a comment. Action Item #2 – Alert Your Friends As the Obama-controlled leftist media plot to silence the conservative voice, it’s imperative that grassroots Americans react and respond strongly. After registering your opinion with the FTC, forward this message to 30-40 of your friends and urge them to take a stand against efforts to censor, limit, tax or restrain free speech on conservative or Christian talk radio, the Internet or anywhere else by clicking here and signing our national “Free Speech Alliance” petition. We must build a strong, proactive coalition of conservative organizations and citizens who are willing to stand up to President Obama’s attempts to silence our voice! Again, this is a critically important meeting where YOUR free speech rights are being impacted. Be sure to click here throughout the day for the latest information from the MRC’s own Seton Motley and Dan Gainor. We appreciate your continued support of MRC initiatives on this critical issue. David P.S. Again, forward this message to your conservative friends urging them to take a stand with you by signing our “Free Speech Alliance” petition. Help the MRC expose and neutralize these stepped up assaults by clicking here and making your best tax-deductible gift right now. With your help, we can expand our efforts and confront EACH of these attacks – neutralizing them with the truth and ultimately thwarting the Left’s plan to muzzle conservatives!
