From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
As a journalist myself, I struggle daily with the viability of print and with how to make money online. However, I can't imagine that any sort of government subsidy or training program would ease these issues. Indeed, government involvement in the press scares the hell out of me. It's one route to tyranny. You need to keep your hands off. So, yes, journalism is undergoing a sea change. Stand back and let it happen. The old will fall by the wayside, and something new will take its place. When was the last time you heard a town crier? Never? Do you miss them? Of course not. Evolution is painful, but necessary and unstoppable.
