From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
Journalism will survive in the internet age through the use of blogs and internet channels, but not through traditional avenues. You must let the free market determine which avenue will survive. Any other action will be interpretted as an attempt to manipulate consumer behavior - to control it for the ends of the state. Here is an example: If people are reading blogs instead of reading the New York Times, then people don't want what the New York Times is offering. Any attempt to subsidize the New York Times is an attempt to subvert the will of the people. Its simply not sound economics. Much more, its not right. Its damaging to traditional journalists because it gives them a false sense of purpose (that isn't very kind or compassionate). Its damaging to new journalists because it frustrates their ability to offer services that people really want.
