From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
Dear FTC Commissioners, As with most things in this country, journalists will survive quite nicely without any efforts by the government to help them. I have gone from being dependent solely on the New York Times and Washington Post for my daily news to having access to articles from dozens of Internet sites, both domestic and foreign. The internet provides a much richer and quicker source of information than the once a day newspapers, much as I enjoy curling up with them and a cup of coffee. Taxing the new media in any form to sustain the old grey ladies is absurd. It won't work and will hobble one of the few area -- technology -- where the US still has a competitive advantage.
