From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
I have read the FTC analysis of the state of the Press and the future of journalism. I beleive that it is a thinly veiled FTC attempt to gain power over what Americans read, listen to, and watch. No, I do not approve of the FTC, or any government organization, promoting one news source over another. This FTC analysis continually talks about charging one news organization for using content from another news organization and then points out the PROBLEM that this would also hinder the organizations that the analysis would like to advantage. Very thinly veiled indeed! The fact that the government once gave mailing discounts to newspapers does not establish a presidence that allows the government to pick winners in loosers in the media buisness. The government once interned Japanese Americans. I shudder to think of what presidence the FTC thinks that establishes.
