From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
A number of the suggestions in the document that the FTC released on this topic in "Potential Policy Recommendations to Support the Reinvention of Journalism" are unconstitutional, clearly violating the First Amendment. The Supreme Court has held that the right to tax is the right to destroy. Certainly then, if the FTC taxes the Press in any way, then they claiming the right to destroy and thereby abridge the rights of the Press. The FTC has no statutory jurisdiction in this area and should cease this effort altogether and at once.
