From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
The press is like any other entity and need to take responsibility for their actions. They should reap the benefits or suffer the consequences of their decisions. They chose to take on large debts and they need to pay their obligations. If they are losing readers/listeners, they need to figure out why and solve the problem accordingly. It is not the listerners/readers who have the responsibility to pay for or suffer the consequences of their poor decisions. It is certainly not the taxpayers who should be involved. Throughout time, people have had to make changes to keep current and relevent. It sounds like journalism is being forced to make changes to stay current. Those who do their job well will be rewarded with advertisers and financial support.
