From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
I am opposed to any governement support of the traditional methods of journalism. Specifically I am oppsed to the purpose of the mentioned workshop to address proposals to better-support and lower the costs of journalism. In a free market, the media must be alowed to succeed or fail based upon consumer demand, not bsed upon being propped up by increased taxes on the citizens of the United States. The citizens are already voting with their purchases of different media sources (online, etc) and government efforts to support oudated media methods are ill-conceived and destined to failure and are an unconstitutional burden on the citizenry. Continued action of this type by the FTC oversteps the bounds of its purpose and is unconstituional. Contining down this course of action would be unwise, similar to the way the British were proceeding in the 18th century with their confiscatory tax policies.
