From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
Ref the June 15, 2010 workshop where the FCC report on "Reinvention of Journalism" will be discussed. The report plan outlines a series of taxes that would stifle free speech and silence proponents of conservative principles. These most troubling proposals incude: * A “Drudge Tax” on news aggregators like The Drudge Report who stand on the front lines of the struggle to expose the Leftist agenda. * A “journalism division” of AmeriCorps -- forcing taxpayers to pay the Obama Administration to train the next generation of liberal journalists. * A direct Journalism Bailout fund to “help pay the salary of every journalist” -- taxpayers will be forced to fund the liberal media * A 5% tax on consumer electronics (like the iPad) * Possible taxes on cell phones, television and radio that would all be part of a massive $35 billion “Citizenship Media Fund” The American people need a totally independent news media, certainly not one beholden the government. The government should not try to control the education of journalists nor limit the free exchange of ideas. I strongly urge the Commission to stop further consideration of this report and let the the freedom of speech guaranteed by the constitution operate in a free market environment without goverment intervention as envisioned by the founders. Repectfully, Roberto Galindo
