From Town Criers to Bloggers: How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?
The FTC plan for the "Reinvention of Journalism" is an affront to the American way of life and the freedoms it offers. I oppose the plan to tax news aggregators like the Drudge Report. I oppose the creation of a "journalism division" of AmeriCorps. I oppose a direct bailout to help pay the salary of every journalist. What comes next? A direct bailout to help pay the salaries of every actor? Of every postal worker? Of every sanitation worker? Of every secretary? In a free market society, which has made America the greatest civilization the world has ever known, freedom of the press is sacrosanct. That means the FTC and every other branch of government should keep their hands off and let the free market solve any problems which might arise. Or has the FTC decided that the United States of America is no longer a free society? In which case, members of the FTC ought to resign, because they don't respect their oaths of office or the Constitution of the United States.
